MANILA, Philippines - Discovery Channel will air a one-hour special as tribute to former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

"Father of a Nation: Lee Kuan Yew" documents how Singapore's first prime minister survived World War II, took the British Empire, struggled for independence and fought for the people and the country that he loved.

Lee Kuan Yew is one of history's longest-serving ministers, governing for three decades.

It was during his term where Singapore emerged from a rural backwater island and evolved into  a bustling economic powerhouse despite its lack of resources.

Singapore's leap from being a third world country to being one of Asia's Tigers can be attributed to Lee Kuan Yew.
