Body Talk with the 1:43 boys

After three successful albums and a string of hit songs, the members of Filipino boy band 1:43 believe they are now ripe to pursue their acting careers, either as a group or individually.

Recently, the group composed of four stylish and talented young men Anjo Resureccion, Gold Aquino, Yuki Sakamoto and Yheen Valero, together with their founder and manager Chris Cahilig, signed a co-management contract with Viva Artists Agency (VAA) owned by Vic del Rosario. The strategic move aims to fulfill 1:43’s long-term plan to become television and movie stars aside from being pop idols.

“While we will remain intact as a boy band, we feel that it’s the right time to take our showbiz careers to a higher level. We are thankful that Boss Vic (del Rosario) readily and warmly welcomed us as Viva’s newest talents,” explains 1:43 spokesman Anjo.

1:43 popularized Sa Isang Sulyap Mo, the monster hit song that won the 2013 PMPC Star Award for Music Song of the Year and the Most Promising Performing and Recording Group in the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation’s 45th Box-Office Entertainment Awards. They are also behind hit songs Ang Saya-Saya which became the official theme song of GMA 7’s sitcom Ismol Family and the YouTube hit Hayop Sa Ganda.

Argee Golding, an international taekwondo medalist from UST, quit in early January to enroll in an aviation school in Subic and was replaced by ramp/commercial model/rapper Yheen to the pop group.

How did you get into music?

Anjo: Way back in college, I joined a theater organization. I got involved in musical plays as an actor.

Gold: I love listening to music, especially OPM bands, and sing in the bathroom. I didn’t expect to become a recording artist.

Yheen: Music is my passion. It’s a part of my life.

Yuki: I used to be the vocalist of a school band.

What are your musical influences? Who are your favorite local and international artists?

Anjo: I look up to our local artists including Up Dharma Down, Parokya ni Edgar (PNE), Hale, Spongecola and most of the hit bands in the ’90s. I also enjoy the music of Ed Sheeran, Birdy, Daft Punk, 2PM and SNSD.

Gold: Mostly alternative music. The songs of PNE and Coldplay are on my playlist.

Yheen: I have a very eclectic taste in music. I listen to reggae, rock, R&B, and hip-hop, particularly the recordings of Jay-Z, PitBull, Bob Marley Magic, PNE, Bamboo and Eraserheads.

Yuki: I am into reggae, pop and rock. You’ll hear me sing the songs of Kamikazee, Franco, PNE, The1975, The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran.

Is it hard to maintain a body like yours?

Anjo: Definitely. Having a fit body is a commitment and a lifestyle.

Gold: Not really. You just need to be consistent on working out and be cautious with your diet.

Yheen: It’s sometimes hard but if you have the motivation and if you really love what you are doing, it’s easier.

Yuki: Yes, but working out and eating right have already become a part of my daily routine.

You look good enough. Is there any part of your body that needs improvement?

Anjo: I am satisfied with what I have now. I am just maintaining this form. I just have to constantly resist my cravings for food.

Gold: My chest, perhaps, needs more improvement. That’s my priority now.

Yheen: I want to improve my legs. I should do squat more often.

Yuki: My nose isn’t perfect but I am not even considering having it done. I like it the way it is.

What kind of diet do you follow? What’s usually for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Any snacks between meals?

Anjo: I do a high-protein and low-carb diet. I eat heavy breakfast since it’s the first meal of the day. For lunch and dinner, I always prepare broiled chicken with calamansi and pepper only as flavor and one cup of brown rice. If there’s no option, any food is fine as long as it’s not fried, try to avoid eating the skin.

Gold: For breakfast, I usually eat boiled eggs and wheat bread. For lunch and dinner, rice and chicken or fish.

Yheen: I am happy that even if I eat a lot, I don’t have a weight problem so far. However, I prefer having fruits and vegetables in every meal. For my protein, I like meat and fish and with a cup or two of rice.

Yuki: I eat anything there is on the table. I am not picky. I just make sure I don’t eat more than necessary.

What workout do you do?

Anjo: I do one muscle group per day and make sure that I don’t miss out my abs. Doing cardio is optional.

Gold: I don’t follow a routine recommended by my fitness instructor but I like putting some variations from time to time.

Yheen: I do the whole body workout every time I’m in the gym.

Yuki: I just do bench press and pull-ups.

What part of your body is most vulnerable?

Anjo: My obliques because they are difficult to maintain.

Gold: My arms. I’ve been rushed to the hospital a few times (and even attend gigs with a bandage) because of a broken arm.

Yheen: Hmmm. You know what I mean…

Yuki: My back. Maybe because of my sleeping position.

And what part of your body is your favorite?

Anjo: My chest because it’s the first thing that everyone notices.

Gold: My back which is firm and strong.

Yheen: My chest. I like the Alibata tattoo on it.

Yuki: My arms.

What part of a girl’s body do you notice first?

Anjo: Her legs and, for some weird reason, her armpit.

Gold: I look straight at her face.

Yheen: Her booty. (Laughs)

Yuki: I am attracted to women with small waist.

And what kind of girls turns you off?

Anjo: Girls who talk a lot without sense.

Gold: Boastful and rude girls.

Yheen: Pa-hard-to-get even if it’s obvious that they also like you.

Yuki: Quiet. I want her to be able to strike a good conversation with me.

How much sleep do you get per night?

Anjo: Approximately six to eight hours.

Gold: Eight hours, always. I can easily sleep even while traveling.

Yheen: Just seven hours.

Yuki: Six to eight hours.

Favorite sleepwear?

Anjo: Just my boxer shorts.

Gold: Sando and shorts.

Yheen: Jogging pants only.

Yuki: Comfortable boxers.

Do you sleep in the nude?

Anjo: Not yet but I might try it tonight. (Laughs)

Gold: Never. Always with clothes on.

Yheen: Sometimes, especially when I am too tired to change.

Yuki: Yes. I sleep better in the nude.

How many pillows do you sleep with?

Anjo: Five to six! I want a spare to cuddle.

Gold: Three is enough.

Yheen: None.

Yuki: Two to four.

Last thing that you do before you go to sleep?

Anjo: I check my phone.

Gold: Check my phone and pray.

Yheen: Basketball. (Laughs). And listening to Jason Mraz songs.

Yuki: Exercise. (Laughs).

First thing that you do as soon as you wake up?

Anjo: Again, I check my phone. (Laughs).

Gold: Drink a cup of coffee.

Yheen: Drink warm water.

Yuki: Smile and thank God for all my blessings in life.

Favorite hideaway?

Anjo: My room.

Gold: The beach and mountains…

Yheen: My room is my sanctuary.

Yuki: My room.

How’s your love life?

Anjo: Single…searching for the right one.

Gold: So far so good.

Yheen: Complicated.

Yuki: As cold as ice.

How’s your sex life?

Anjo: Hmmm…

Gold: Secret.

Yheen: Awesome. (Laughs)

Yuki: Like Coke, my favorite drink, zero.

Lights on or lights off?

Anjo: Any is fine. I am confident with my body. I hope she is, too.

Gold: Definitely on.

Yheen: On. I want to see how she would seduce me…

Yuki: Lights off.

Three men that have a body as nice as yours?

Anjo: Enchong Dee, James Reid and and Ejay Falcon.

Gold: I really haven’t thought about that.

Yheen: Many K-Pop idols. They are usually very lean and toned.

Yuki: Zanjoe Marudo, Robin Padilla and Coco Martin.

And three women that you find sexy?

Anjo: Alodia, Emma Stone and Ellen Adarna.

Gold: Too many to mention. Baka may magtampo.

Yheen: Jennifer Lopez tops the list.

Yuki: Cristine Reyes, Marian Rivera and Coleen Garcia are hot!

Using only body language, how would you make a woman know that you admire her?

Anjo: I look at her straight in the eyes…with passion!

Gold: I make full use of my chinito eyes.

Yheen: Pa-simpleng eye-to-eye contact.

Yuki: I look at her and smile.
