In the ’50s and ’60s, an American mestiza portrayed mostly sophisticated roles, usually for Sampaguita Pictures, her home studio. She is Myrna Delgado, Betty Hill offcam. Myrna’s beautiful and bedimpled face and socialite-like bearing suited heroine and anti-heroine roles.
Myrna was the high-society lady in Basahang Ginto, co-starring with Pancho Magalona and Alicia Vergel, who played the title role. She was the spoiled brat in Waldas and Menor de Edad, both opposite Pancho. Myrna was the villainess in Kontra-Bida and Kasaysayan ni Rudy Concepcion. She played a queen in Ang Prinsesa at Ang Pulubi.
Myrna also starred in dramatic movies like Monghita, Recuerdo and Sa Dulo ng Landas. She also did comedy roles in Matandang Dalaga and Tatay Na Si Bondying.
One of her last movies for Sampaguita in the early ’70s, shortly before migrating to the US, was Danny Boy starring Pepito Rodriguez. — RKC
