MANILA, Philippines - Reigning WBO Welterweight Champion Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to defend his title against Christopher Algieri on Nov. 23 at the Cotai Arena in the Venetian Macau.
After months of negotiations, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum finally found a fighter who will go head to head with the eight division world champion.
Algieri is undefeated in 20 professional fights, winning eight by knockout. He recently fought Ruslan Provodnikov, who also happens to be under the tutelage of Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, in a bout which saw Algieri coming out on top via split decision for the WBO Light Welterweight Title.
Pacquiao, coming off a unanimous decision victory over Timothy Bradley last April, will put his newly reclaimed WBO Welterweight Title on the line against the Huntington, Long Island, New York native, who is also undefeated as a kickboxer, where he posted an impressive 20-0 record. Moreover, Algieri the International Sport Karate Association Welterweight and World Kickboxing Association Super Welterweight Championships as a professional kickboxer.
Joe DeGuardia, co-promoter of Star Boxing and Banner Promotions, who has Algieri as one of its fighters, said, “He’s gonna beat Pacquiao.”
