'Godzilla' earns P90.4M on opening weekend

MANILA, Philippines- The film “Godzilla” was given a “monstrous” welcome here in the Philippines.

According to Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. Philippines, the film grossed P90.4 million  in four days - from the opening day of May 15 to May 18.

The gross helps “Godzilla”  to become the company's biggest opening film of the year, taking over the position of “300: Rise of an Empire” and “The Lego Movie” in March, and February, respectively.

The film also performed well in other countries. In the US it earned $93.2 million, making it the largest-ever May opening for Warner, and $103 million from 64 international territories.

The film depicts human courage and reconciliation, with the help of the creature named Godzilla.

The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn, and Bryan Cranston.

“Godzilla” is directed by Gareth Edwards and still showing in Philippine cinemas nationwide.
