Sam speaks up!: The real score on his recent encounter with Anne Curtis

MANILA, Philippines - Sam Concepcion finally broke his silence on the issue involving Anne Curtis.

Without going into details, Sam confirmed to reporters yesterday that a confrontation did happen between him and Anne but what’s more important is that all’s well between them now. He also said he wouldn’t be saying a word had he not straightened things out first with the actress.

“I wanna clear things first with her. Gusto ko maging OK po muna kami,” said the Kapamilya singer-actor, smiling and unruffled amid the flurry of questions after he was formally launched as the new endorser of Chef’s Noodle at the Korean restaurant’s branch in Robinsons Magnolia.

According to a Pep report, Anne, the ate of Sam’s girlfriend Jasmine Curtis-Smith, confronted Sam during the March 30 birthday party of Vice Ganda, asking him, among other questions, “Bakit niloloko mo ang kapatid ko?” The news item sent social media buzzing with comments; with netizens likening it to a previous controversy involving Anne (and which the star quickly apologized for and chalked up to having “one too many drinks”) with other personalities.

Anne herself immediately took to social media to address the Sam incident: “Of course, I spoke to Sam that night and as always, I told him to take care of my baby sister. Like any ate would do but to clarify I did not say any of those words written in the article.”

As for Sam, “I understand  where she’s coming from. I have a little sister. Of course, I will look out for my little sister. All of that are valid reasons. The most important part is that we’re okay. I’m okay with Anne, I’m okay with Jasmine.” So okay, it seems, as Sam said that he was present at the private birthday bash of Jasmine last April 6, where he saw Anne and the rest of the family.

Asked on who reached out first to whom, Sam said, “As the guy… since I’m the one who is courting Jasmine, whatever the situation, it is always the guy who has to make the effort. That’s my stand.”

 The young performer, nevertheless, admitted that the incident came as a surprise because “we’ve (Anne and I) always been okay. But she has her reasons, and for whatever reasons, family kasi yun ni Jasmine. I understand and I really respect her (Anne).”

Was it true that what transpired left him nearly in tears — out of hurt and embarrassment — as per reports? “I’m very understanding of people. There’s also no space for me to feel that way. I’m really doing it for Jasmine and I would go through whatever for her.”

When told that there are speculations that the incident might have stemmed from rumors linking him to Mira Bella co-star Julia Barretto, Sam was quick to dismiss, “Of course, there’s no truth to that. Yun nga po, sana di na po lumaki yung issue, yung story na lumabas,” explaining that he doesn’t want his relationship with Jasmine and her family to be tainted with that kind of rumor. He also said, “Stories came up, then iba-iba na. Nakaka-overwhelm din on my part.”

Is he loyal to Jasmine? Sam without missing a beat said, “Oh yes, definitely! She is very, very special to me. I really take care of her. I won’t do anything to hurt her.”

“I’m happy to have someone like her in my life,” he added.

He also appealed to fans as well as bashers not to anymore magnify the issue. “I hope ‘wag na natin palakihin ng palakihin. Nobody deserves to be attacked. We’re just cultivating something that’s not good.”

Asked for a message to Anne, who’s still recovering from a nasty jellyfish attack while she was taping for her Dyesebel series, he said, “I hope and pray for her speedy recovery,” also lamenting on people passing judgment on the ABS-CBN star, “Alam niyo, kung may mangyari (like that), we should not wish it on anyone. Nobody deserves that! It shouldn’t happen to anyone.”

Sam is hoping that Jasmine as well as Anne would make it to the 30th anniversary concert of Gary Valenciano tonight and tomorrow at the Big Dome where he is one of guest performers. Gary V. has already declared Sam as his heir-apparent to which a grateful Sam reacted, “It’s Gary V! If he said that, it’s giving me much pressure but it’s also giving me much inspiration.”
