MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Star's Bum Tenorio may have alluded to it in his column "You're The Man, Charice!" but today, Charice Pempengco admitted on air that she is indeed a lesbian.
In a segment on the ABS-CBN show "The Buzz" that aired Sunday, Pempengco was asked by host Boy Abunda the question that is on everyone's mind.
"I don't know how to phrase this only because ako'y naniniwala na you don't owe anybody any explanation," said Abunda. "Naniniwala ako na walang kinalaman sa talento ang usapin na may kinalaman sa sexual orientation and gender identity. Pero kinakailangan itanong kaya itatanong ko. Simple lang. Charice, are you a lesbian?"
Pempengco then began her answer by saying that she could have done this internationally "pero pinili ko po dito dahil malaki po ang utang na loob ko sa mga Pilipinos dahil na-feel ko na gusto ko po na sila, sila ang makaalam kung ano man po ako kung sino man po ako."
"Opo, tomboy po ako," Pempengco finally said. "Hindi ko po alam kung anong problema doon."
