MANILA, Philippines - Eddie Garcia (for Bwakaw) and Nora Aunor (for Thy Womb) were named Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively, at the 7th Asian Film Awards held Monday night at the Hong Kong Convention Center.
Eddie also bagged the People’s Choice Award at the same HK event.
It’s the second award for Eddie and Nora for the same movies from an awards body outside of the Philippines. The first for Nora was from the Asia Pacific Film Awards in Brisbane, Australia, last year; and for Eddie, from the Asia Pacific Film festival in Macau in December last year.
In Bwakaw, directed by Jun Robles Lana, Eddie plays an aging gay whose sole company is a dog named Bwakaw while Nora in Thy Womb, directed by Brillante Mendoza, plays a barren Muslim midwife who lets her husband (Bembol Roco) sire a child with another woman (Lovi Poe).

Lapuz said that Eddie will take the lead in Lana’s new film, Kuwentong Barbero, which is a Hong Kong Asia Film Financing project.
