MANILA, Philippines - Jericho Rosales (photo) has been making waves throughout Asia for the past months beginning with the success of his indie film, Alagwa, which premiered in the Busan International Film Festival in Korea last year. The bravura of Jericho’s performance earned rave reviews from The Hollywood Reporter and the film continued to earn praise in three prestigious film festivals in India namely, Chennai International Film Festival, Kochi International Film Festival and in Bangalore International Film Festival under its Asian Competition category where 10 Asian films participated. Alagwa, which centers on human trafficking, was also part of the Cambodia International Film Festival.
Jericho is creating nationwide mania in Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia with the international TV airing of ABS-CBN’s mega hit soap Pangako Sa ‘Yo — his breakthrough series which he did over 10 years ago. In Malaysia, the airing of Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas preceded the airing of Pangako Sa ‘Yo making Jericho the hottest craze among Malaysians.
Recently, he visited Malaysia and created nationwide hysteria as one of the special guests of Malaysian cable channel Astro Bella in its fifth anniversary. The Hilton Hotel in Malaysia was filled with over 500 Malaysian fans eager to meet Jericho in person.
Jericho made a short stop in Bangkok last Tuesday en route to Cambodia where Pangako Sa ‘Yo is equally big for a special meet-and-greet session with his huge Cambodian fanbase.
“I feel so honored because of the warm reception given to me in Malaysia. I did Pangako Sa ‘Yo over 10 years ago and it’s such a great feeling to know that our work, our team effort has such a universal and timeless appeal. Pangako Sa ‘Yo is proudly Pinoy and I am humbled to represent the wonderful cast and crew who worked so hard in this pioneering series,†says Jericho.
He will return to Malaysia as Alagwa is set to participate in the ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards in Sarawak on Mar. 28 to 30.
