Mother, son get top PMPC awards for roles in MMK

MANILA, Philippines - Sylvia Sanchez and her son Arjo Atayde deserved the top awards for their outstanding performances in separate episodes of Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK).

At the recent 26th Philippine Movie Press Club Star Awards rites at the Ateneo Theater in Quezon City, Arjo got the Best New Male TV Personality award for his role in MMK’s Bangka episode.

On the other hand, Sylvia received the Best Single Performance award for the MMK series Aswang.

In Bangka, Arjo played the eldest of the three siblings wherein he had to swim about two kilometers to accompany his brothers to school.

Bangka outlines one’s story about love for the family.

In Aswang, Sylvia played the role of a province girl who villagers suspected to be an aswang.

It is a touching story about extraordinary friendship between Analina (played by Lara Quigaman) and Poying (Sylvia).

Both MMK episodes showed high television ratings and earned praises among viewers.

The PMPC cited MMK for having contributed a lot to the growth of teleseries in the country.

“That’s why it’s just but proper to honor the people who became a part of it,” said PMPC president Roldan Castro.

During the PMPC awards night, ABS-CBN raked in major citations, including Best Drama Actor, Coco Martin for Walang Hanggan; Best Drama Actress, Dawn Zulueta, Walang Hanggan; and Best Child performer Bugoy Carino, E-Boy.
