Even if the whole world knows that he’s married, fans couldn’t get over their devotion to Kevin Jonas who performed at a concert with his brother Joe and Nick at the SM MOA Arena, with their “adopted” sister Anna Maria Perez de Tagle as special guest performer.
Paul Kevin Jonas II (a.k.a. K2), who turned 25 last Nov. 5, doesn’t hide the fact that he has been married to Danielle Deleasa, a former New Jersey hairdresser, since Dec. 19, 2009, two years after their paths crossed while they were vacationing with their respective families in the Bahamas. They come from opposite ends of the spectrum, with different values — Kevin from a musical family and Danielle a traditional Italian-American family. He comes from the “messy” world of showbiz and she from a casual and relaxed background.
Last Nov. 18, the couple’s reality-TV show aptly titled Married to Jonas premiered on E! Entertainment Television (Skycable Gold and Silver subscribers Channel 57), airing Sundays starting at 10 o’clock.
Funfare was among five journalists from Asian countries who did a phone interview with Kevin (calling from New Jersey) yesterday.
Here are the interesting portions:
What do you think are the risks of doing a show that lays your private life wide open to the public?
“Danielle and I just have to show people in a new and interesting way. It’s hard getting used to it but it really helped us know more about each other, our relationship and who we are as persons. I’m happy that we’re doing it.
“We did weigh our options before we agreed to do the show — you know, are we ready for this? Because we have to open our lives up to scrutiny. I guess we just need to be ourselves and let the people know who we really are. We just have to be careful.”
How’s married life so far?
“Hmmmmm, married life is amazing. Luckily, I married the right person. Danielle and I have a great time being married. I’m so thrilled and happy to spend the rest of my life with her, for sure.”
Tell us how you and Danielle met and matched.
“Danielle and I met in The Bahamas. I was there with my family and she was there with hers. It was her first day and my last day there. I didn’t want her to be out of my sight so I spent as much of my time left with her as I could. It was a wonderful experience! That was in 2007. I was laughing when I woke up the next morning. I knew that she cared for me and I cared for her but she never really thought about it and she never really put her hopes up.
“After Bahamas, she was in New York and I was in Los Angeles. I called her and we haven’t stopped talking ever since. We got married two years later. So how did I know that she’s the one? Hmmmm, my dad always said, ‘You’ll know when you meet her.’ It’s hard to explain but that’s how I felt when I met Danielle.”
Opposites do attract, right? You and Danielle come from different backgrounds. What do you have in common that you’ve discovered so far?
“Well, we definitely are opposites. You know, I’m the type of guy who can live out of the suitcase and I’ll be okay. Danielle is a homebody and that’s great, and I love her for that! She has made me appreciate the times that we are home. It’s so nice. Similarities? Well, we have the same passion for fun and for family, and enjoying music as well. We share the way we care for people in our lives. That’s why I’m excited to start a family with her because I know that we’re gonna have the same feelings about a lot of things. We will be good teammates in having children, for sure.”
You’ve seen each other’s good side and bad side. What’s the one thing that you love about her and one thing that you’re getting used to?
“Oh wow, I love everything about her! Even her flaws are great because they show a vulnerability and a person that I still want to be with, no matter how things can seem to be crazy sometimes. I know that I can learn from them. It’s her and she is what I love.”
How will you spend your third wedding anniversary on Dec. 19 and how soon do you plan to have a baby?
“We’re not sure yet when that will happen — I mean when the baby will come. The right timing, I guess. It’s all up to God. Regarding our anniversary, I’m not sure yet what our plans are. Since our anniversary is so close to Christmas, we always think of something that’s fun, at the same time we know that we got to be home. It’s a little bit difficult sometimes. But I have a cool idea how we’ll spend it this year and I’m not giving it away. Surprise!”
