Int’l theater confab/workshop set

MANILA, Philippines - In pursuit of its mission of  promoting theater in education in various parts of the country, the  Philippine Centre of the International University Theater Association (IUTA) continues with its series of conference/workshops. In 2011, it was held at Miriam College. In 2012, it was at Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. In February, 2013, it’s going to be in Iloilo City.

Recently, University of San Agustin (USA) has formally agreed to host the first West Visayan Regional International University Association Conference/Workshop to be held in Iloilo City on Feb. 6, 7 and 8, 2013 in collaboration with the International University Theater Association (IUTA)-Philippine Centre. The agreement was reached in a meeting attended by Fr. Frederick Comendador, president of USA; Nick Lizaso of the IUTA-Philippine Center; and Eric Divinagracia, director, University Center for Culture and the Arts. Theme of the said event is Role of Theater In the Campus and Community.

The workshop is in response to the insistent clamor from theater groups, colleges and universities in the Western Visayan region that they be given the same experience which theater educators and practitioners had during the highly successful IUTA Festival/Conference/Workshops held at Miriam College in July 2011.

There are plans also to invite a roster of theater experts from the Asean as well as United States and Australia to take part in the event.

Providing the team of experts, facilitators and support staff who will manage and conduct the activities of the conference and workshops will be Intermedia Creative Network (ICN), the official production management company of IUTA-Philippine Centre.

According to Lizaso, more details will be announced soon.
