MANILA, Philippines - G Tongi is putting on her dancing shoes again for a very special production number on ABS-CBN’s ASAP tomorrow. It will be her first dance performance since returning to showbiz earlier this year. And it will be made even more memorable because she will be joined by her own daughter, Sakura.
The Aryana star made waves on TV in the late ’90s as host of the weekly dance show EZ Dancing Non-Stop, which made her popular as a dance diva aside from being an actress. She also released a pop album in 2000 called Very G. She then moved to the US in the early 2000s to try her luck in Hollywood.
She did not completely turn her back on her Philippine career. She continued to make movies in the country including the Enteng Kabisote films and one of Dolphy’s last films, Nobody, Nobody But…Juan in 2009.
While in the US, G also went back to school. She graduated from UCLA with a major in Communications Studies and a double minor in Film and Theater with honors. She also started her own family and now has two children, son Kenobi and seven-year-old Sakura.
G decided to resume her acting career in the country by signing up with the Viva Artists Agency last March. Her comeback project on ABS-CBN is Aryana, where she plays the major villain. Her guest appearance in ASAP will mark her return to a variety show, with her daughter no less.
Says the 34-year-old actress, “Our bonding moments have always been associated with performing arts. Dance classes, voice lessons, piano, creative dramatics classes filled our days together in L.A. So making her ‘dance debut’ in ASAP with me where I first started dancing reinforces all the times I drove and accompanied her to her classes. Without a doubt, she is my mini-me who will follow her passion for the performing arts just like her mommy.”
