MANILA, Philippines - Kina Grannis, the YouTube star from Mission Viejo, California is coming to Manila. The Kina Grannis In Your Arms World Tour 2012 will be held at the Meralco Theater on Meralco Ave., Ortigas, Pasig on March 15. It is a great opportunity for music fans who are wondering how the sweet, unassuming song artist got seen at the Super Bowl and garnered 3.5 million YouTube views in just three weeks.
Kina started writing songs while still in elementary school and often joined district competitions. She started out playing the violin but later taught herself to play the guitar. It was while in college at the University of Southern California that she recorded the albums Sincerely Me, One More In The Attic and Memory of the Singing Bridge.
Her first big break came when her song Ours To Keep was featured regularly in the TV series General Hospital. It was followed by her video of Message From Your Heart winning the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contest. As a result, she had her video played during the commercial breaks of the Super Bowl XLII. Her songs Never Never and People were also used in episodes of the MTV reality series College Life.
Kina also acts. She appeared in the mini-series Funemployed. She was named the Sirius /XM Coffeehouse 2010 Singer/Songwriter Discovery of the Year last 2011 while her song Heart and Mind was used in the German TV series Anna Und Die Liebe. She has headlined a sold-out concert at the Troubadour Club in Los Angeles and won the 2011 MTV O Music Awards.
Kina’s latest hit album is Stairwells with the singles World In Front Of Me, Mr. Sun and In Your Arms. It was the much-talked about video of the latter song that catapulted her to Internet stardom. Almost two years in the making, the video directed by Greg Jardin used to stop motion animation to show Kina with 288,000 jellybeans. The video earned 3.5 million views in three weeks. This earned her an appearance in Ellen and other shows plus an iTunes Music Video of the Week award.
