Countdown to Children of Bodom Live in Manila begin

MANILA, Philippines - With barely a week left before international heavy metal act Children of Bodom (dubbed as “The Hate Crew”) invades Manila on Nov. 19 at the Amoranto Theater — as part of its Ugly World Tour 2011. As it brandishes its unique style of melodic death metal to local Filipino audiences, PULP Magazine urges loyal metal-heads to grab their tickets now and avail of the special early-bird prices for VIP and general admission tickets, at P2,500 and P1,500, respectively. The promo, which will run only until the day before the show, gives fans a chance to save up to P500 if they buy their tickets early at all TicketNet, TicketWorld and SM Ticket outlets. The concert is presented by JB Music.

Meanwhile, PULP honors yet another international act that first made waves in the ’90s by spearheading the popular grunge movement, Pearl Jam, as it celebrates its 20th year in the industry. After defining both an era and a culture in the United States which ultimately became a worldwide phenomenon, Eddie Vedder and company are celebrating two decades of their influence with the release of a docu-film helmed by none other than award-winning director and music journalist Cameron Crowe, with an accompanying soundtrack and book dubbed Twenty. Music editor Cris Ramos chronicles both the past and recent achievements of the legendary outfit, so ’90s rock fans and newbie music fanatics should find this both an entertaining and educational read.

And speaking of influential, modern metal-core fans will not only rejoice in knowing that Australia’s “thunder from down under” Parkway Drive has made the flip-cover and the inside pages of PULP, but also have reason to start flexing their limbs as PULP Live Productions brings this awesome Aussie group to our shores on Dec. 9 at The Amoranto Theater. Yes, it’s true — Parkway Drive is ready to pummel, smash and destroy with the most brutal, mosh-pit inducing breakdowns, and PULP New Zealand correspondent Laura Chan was fortunate enough to conduct an exclusive interview with its vocalist Winston McCall. This is definitely a treat for all the hardcore/metalcore kids, as the genre has seen a resurgence in the past year. Tickets are now available also at an early-bird discounted price of P1,500. The promo expires on Dec. 8 and the regular door price is P1,800.

Of course, fans of local rock music shouldn’t fret as the rest of this month’s issue is filled to the borders with only the best that local Pinoy rock has to offer. Prog fans can dive into the technically diverse styling of Eternal Now, while fans of the dark, texture-heavy and ethereal sounding will surely enjoy the feature on Skies of Ember, one of the most celebrated shoegaze acts in the local underground scene, who is about to release its sophomore LP The Last Train of Thought. And for those who like their rock punchy and flavored with alternative melodies and sudden, technical shifts, then PULP editor-in-chief Joey Dizon’s article on Subscapular might just be what the doctor ordered for a fresh musical fix.

As always, that’s just the tip of the iceberg… as PULP Magazine is again filled with more music features, concert reviews, exclusive event coverage and the most reliable reviews of albums currently out in the market today. PULP’s November issue is one for the collectors, and for everyone who gives a damn about great music of all genres.
