MANILA, Philippines - In celebration of its 20th year on Philippine television, ABS-CBN’s Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK), the longest running drama anthology in Asia, presented a special screening of Tungkod, one of its five anniversary episodes, recently at the Cinema 3 of EDSA Shangri-La Cineplex.
Directed by 2009 Cannes Film Festival Best Director Brillante “Dante” Mendoza, MMK takes great pride in the episode shot in Palawan.
Mendoza is considered as a “living national treasure” of the Philippine alternative cinema, being the first Filipino to win the most coveted award at Cannes for his film Kinatay.
ABS-CBN president and COO Charo Santos-Concio, who’s also the host of MMK inspired everyone with her talk on the milestones of her show and thanked all the hardworking people behind its success.
MMK’s Tungkod episode trails the story of Bogs (Angel Aquino), a wife and a mother who is very much dedicated to her beliefs. In spite of her courage and fidelity in fighting for it she did not realize that her own family was already suffering with it. In the middle of her battle, Bogs faces her life’s greatest challenge.
