Kapuso stars shine in Korea

MANILA, Philippines - Aljur Abrenica and Frencheska Farr received Model Star Award citations at the 2011 Asia Model Festival Awards.

Aljur, lead of GMA 7’s Machete and Frencheska, star of Emir, rubbed elbows with Jerry Yan of Meteor Garden and Kwon Sang Woo or Cholo of Stairway To Heaven. Both were also awardees.

“Nakapag-pa-picture pa si Frencheska kay Jerry Yan,” recalled Jenny Donato of GMA Artist Center who was on hand to take part in the event.

Frencheska performed a number in a separate event dubbed New  Face Model Contest. She sang Everytime, theme song of Tween Hearts.

In the same affair where GMAAC head Ida Henares was a presentor, Suzuki Sadatsugu, a representative (along with Alexies McFarland) sent by GMAAC to participate in the contest, won the Most Popular award. Thus, with both events sandwich in a three-day stretch from Jan. 19 to 21, the Kapuso delegates reaped more than enough awards, making the Korean trip extra special.

Rhian Ramos and Victor Aliwalas, Iza Calzado and Robbie Mananquil also received Asia Model awards in 2009 and 2007, respectively.

“We are delighted to be part of the yearly gathering of artists from 13 countries,” said Ida. “The festival organizers are appreciative of our support. We hope our artists will keep on contributing greatly to their vision of rich cultural exchange via this festival.”
