MANILA, Philippines - The recent NU107 Rock Awards was memorable for a couple of big news. One, it may be the last since NU107 signed off after 23 years of setting trends in the rock scene. Second is the record set by MCA Music, Inc. which took home more than half of the trophies given that night and bagging major awards.
With artists from its stable, particularly Franco and Tanya Markova, bagging the major categories, MCA Music won an unprecedented nine out of 16 awards.
During that festive and poignant night at NBC Tent last year, MCA labelmates Franco and Tanya Markova bagged big awards each and bested other strong contenders for the categories they were in.
Franco, the rock group fronted by vocalist Franco Reyes, took perhaps the four biggest citations, including the coveted Artist of the Year title. The five-man ensemble also won Album of the Year, Song of the Year for This Gathering and Listener’s Choice award.
Tanya Markova earned a big three of their own: Best New Artist, Best Live Act and Best Music Video for Disney.
Urbandub, another MCA band, excelled in the individual efforts department, with vocalist Gabby Alipe winning Vocalist of the Year and bassist Lalay Lim Bassist of the Year.
