Robin: Yes, I do have a soft side

Robin Padilla: I’ve loved every woman I’ve been involved with  — Photo by VER PAULINO

Manila, Philippines - Mention the name Robin Padilla and what comes to mind are the toughness and roughness he displays in most of his TV and movie projects. But Robin, always impeccably polite, insists he’s just like any ordinary guy. A loving father and husband, Robin is responsible enough to provide for his family — a role that fits him to a T in Smart Talk ‘N Text’s latest TVC which shows Pinoys as madiskarte to make ends meet and be a good provider. The toughie also turns into a softie when it concerns his children, especially his daughters. Discover more about Robin as he opens up about his family, social concerns and other interests.

1. How’s Robin Padilla as a father? (Patricia Llanes of Iloilo)

I’m strict but fair. If my children can clearly raise their point and I find it reasonable then I’ll agree with them. Otherwise, I’ll be firm on my decision.

2. Are you stricter on your daughters? (Anna Go, Binondo, Manila)

My son is still young and all he wants to do is play. I’m in a state of sadness these days because Queenie has just turned 18 at isyu namin ngayon ang paghingi n’ya ng kalayaan — nakakabahala. It’s hard to decide.

3. You are tagged as a ladies’ man, do you worry that daughters are said to be pambayad utang? (Daniel Perez, Mandaluyong City)

Nabansagan lang ako. I’ve nothing to worry about because I have loved all the women I’ve been involved with. I respected them. I never abused and lied to them, except to my wife (Liezl Sicangco), hahaha!

4. Is it hard to maintain a long distance relationship with your wife and children (based in Australia)? (Daisy Balen, Bulacan)

Liezl and I have been together for 22 years at masaya kami so we are more focused on our children. Doon nakatayo ang matibay na relasyon namin. What’s important for me as a father is to provide for their needs, ‘yan ang trabaho ng isang ama.

5. Do you have a soft side? (Jen Cruz, Taytay, Rizal)

A man can be likened to an egg, matigas lang sa labas. I can be emotional too especially with my daughters. Ang sukatan ng tapang para sa kin ay yung may pagmamahal, may respeto at pinaniniwalaan ng nakapaligid sa’yo.

6. Do you agree that popularity comes with responsibility? (Des Galang, Manila)

Most young people look up to us so I always make it a point to impart something good like Filipino values.

7. What is your next project? (Ver Suarez, Cavite)

I’ll rest first. I will be in India for two weeks because I want to see and learn their martial arts. That’s my therapy.

8. Are there other things you would want to do? (Dan Lina, Davao)

A lot but less time. I want to help in whatever way I can gaya ng gulo sa Mindanao. I was supposed to go there as UN peace representative but when I arrived at the airport I was told the operation was suspended. Mga ganung gawain na makakatulong sa ating mga kapatid.
