MANILA, Philippines – After offering a series of feel-good romance-dramas and side-splitting comedies, the latest having been the Sharon-Ai-Ai starrer BFF (Best Friends Forever), Star Cinema is out to scare you out of your wits with its forthcoming presentation, Villa Estrella, written by Joel Mercado and JP Abellana, and directed by Rico Ilarde.
“We need a good scare every now and then,” said direk Rico, “especially in economically-challenging times like this. Even if only for two hours inside a dark movie house, which enhances the movie’s ‘scare factor,’ we have to be jolted a bit before we go back to the reality which can be darker than the mysteries the movie will unravel.”
Villa Estrella stars four of today’s most popular young stars: Shaina Magdayao, Jake Cuenca, Geoff Eigenmann and Maja Salvador. All four are followed religiously by their fans in ABS-CBN soaps. It’s the first time that they are brought together in a movie.
In the movie, the four form a barkada that unknowingly wanders into the dilapidated Villa Estrella which is wrapped in mysteries. The barkada doesn’t know that they are getting caught in a web of mysteries hidden within the villa’s walls. It turns out that the villa is home to tormented souls of the past who are trying to change the fate of those in the present. Moviegoers will hold on to their seats as they witness the four friends untangle themselves from the web. But will they come out of the villa alive?
Will Villa Estrella set a new trend in the industry?
