MANILA, Philippines – Moms will be serenaded with music they love as top international classic performers take centerstage on Mother’s Day, May 10, 7:30 p.m. at the Mega Atrium of SM Megamall. They are Victor “Cocoy” Laurel, tenor Lemuel de la Cruz, and the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra.
Cocoy’s enduring career in the performing arts spans almost all fields of entertainment — television, cinema, theater, and the concert stage. He is best known as a singer-actor, but surprisingly has less known talents as a portrait painter, and as a composer. Ironically, this was his earliest form of artistic expression — his infatuation with music began at age four when his father, former Vice President Salvador Laurel bought him a Wurlitzer spinet.
He will perform well-loved songs like Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Someone to Watch Over You, What a Wonderful World, The Way You Look Tonight, and Spanish songs like Al di La, Historia de un Amor, and the Spanish version of Love Story. He will also sing French songs like La Vie en Rose and Mi Mancherai.
Also performing on the same night will be Lemuel, one of the country’s finest tenors and a resident of the Singapore Lyric Opera, and the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Rodel Colmenar.
Today at 7 p.m., Kevyn Lettau topbills Summer Serenade at the Mega Atrium.
