Pinoy folk-rock songs are back

MANILA, Philippines - Freddie Aguilar, Asin, Juan dela Cruz band, Sampaguita, Florante, Maria Cafra, Gary Granada and Heber Bartolome are some of the classic artists revitalized through a new folk-rock album that’s topping local record charts. Vicor Music, home of classic OPM, releases the definitive folk and rock compilation CD titled UGAT: The Best Of Pinoy Folk Rock.

The 18 track, all-original album contains the songs of these legendary folk and rock acts of the ‘70s.

The digitally-remastered collection includes Freddie’s Anak and his Metropop fest winning interpretation of Bulag, Pipi at Bingi while Asin is featured with its hits Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran and Pagbabalik. Also included are hits of other ‘70s folk heavyweights like Florante with Handog and Ako’y Pinoy as well as Banyuhay Ni Heber with Tayo’y Mga Pinoy.

The roots of Pinoy rock is also represented via the OPM anthem Himig Natin by Juan dela Cruz band and its contemporaries Sampaguita and Maria Cafra with hits Bonggahan and Kumusta Mga Kaibigan,  respectively. Other featured songs are Problema Na Naman by the Sino Band; I Am Sorry by Sarj; Dukha and Batugan by Judas while tracks from Coritha (Oras Na), Penpen (Penpen De Sarapen) Lolita & The Boys (Usok) and Gary Granada (Kahit Konti).
