Movies for the marry month

June, as they say, is the best time to get married. This belief dates back during the ancient Roman times as they give respect to the goddess of wedding, Juno. So this month, whether we are the ones getting married or not, let’s take a seat, celebrate and be witnesses again to some of the most memorable movies about weddings.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The movie gives viewers a glimpse of the Grecian culture especially their wedding traditions. Toula (Nia Vardalos), who struggles to live free from their Grecian tradition, is a thirtysomething single woman horribly pressured by her parents to get married. She gladly finds a guy and they get married. But there’s a problem, he is not Greek.

Wedding Planner. A perfect wedding would definitely require a wedding planner; but what if the wedding planner starts to fall in love with either the groom or the bride-to-be? Mary Fiore (Jennifer Lopez) is the best wedding planner there is. She knows how to make the perfect romantic wedding. When she accepts a project for an upcoming wedding, she never expected that she will fall in love with the groom. How can she perfectly plan the wedding when she hopes to be the bride?

American Wedding. The second sequel of the successful American Pie movie,  this, follows the life of Jim (Jason Biggs) as he finally  summons  the courage to ask Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) to get married. Everything is going smoothly and according to plan, until Stifler (Sean William Scott) enters the picture. He messes up everything, plans for the bachelor party and even forces Jim to invite him to the wedding in exchange for a dance lesson, which Jim needs badly. Will the wedding be a riot?

Father of the Bride. The hardest thing for a father to do is walk down the aisle and finally give his daughter to the man she loves. George Banks (Steve Martin) is about to experience this when his daughter announces that she is getting married. Chaos surrounds the Banks’ household as George can’t get himself to accept a lot of things: The huge expenses for the wedding, his son-in-law to be, Frank (Martin Short) the wedding coordinator, and of course, the fact that his daughter is getting married.

Runaway Bride. What could be scary on a wedding day? That is when the bride or groom doesn’t appear or run away during the ceremony. This movie tells the story of  Maggie (Julia Roberts), who had run away from her grooms for the third time and is planning  a fourth wedding. Ike (Richard Gere), a divorced writer, gets interested and writes about Maggie’s story. As Ike and Maggie meet and spend time together, they realize they are falling in love. But how about Maggie’s fourth husband-to-be? Will she finally walk down the aisle with Ike? Or will she run away again?

Coming to America. Behold, Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) is coming to Queens, New York to find his Queen to be. In order to find a wife who will truly love him, he covers himself up as a regular guy working as a janitor in a fastfood chain. He falls in love with his manager’s daughter. Everything  is going so well between the two; until, the truth about his royal blood comes out.

License to Wed. Ben (John Krasinski) and Sadie (Mandy Moore) finally decide to get married. Sadie’s final request is to get married in their church at St. Augustine’s. Rev. Frank (Robin Williams) orders the couple to attend his pre-nuptial course. The couple agrees to do this, but they didn’t expect that the course would give them a hard time — a reality for married couples. Will Ben and Sadie survive the pre-nuptial course? Or will they just call off the wedding?

Monster-in-Law. One of the major problems that married couples encounter, is  the in-laws. Charlie (Jennifer Lopez) finally decides to get married to Dr. Kevin Fields (Michael Vartan). But there is one major character who objects to this:  Mrs. Viola Fields (Jane Fonda), Kevin’s mother. She believes that Charlie is going to take away Kevin from her. So before that happens, she plans evil things to stop the union of Kevin and Charlie. Will there be any wedding if there’s a mother (monster)-in-law like Mrs.Viola?

The Bachelor. You think getting married in a rush is hard?  Wait until a million dollars is at stake. Jimmie Shannon (Chris O’ Donnel) needs to get married or else he will lose a million dollars and cause the laying-off of employees in their company. But there’s a problem, he is not good when it comes to relationships. How will he be able to find a girl for him? Will a marriage take place?

That Old Feeling. A wedding should focus on the couples; but this movie just shows how much attention the bride’s parents need. Lilli (Bette Midler) and Dan (Dennis Farina) are divorced and will see each other again, after a long time, at their daughter’s wedding. As expected, arguments will surely occur between the two, but not really. It seems the passion between them is back. Will there be another wedding for the old couple? How about the bride of the moment — their daughter?
