However, that’s the most they can do. Unlike any other young showbiz couple, the two are not used to showing their affection to the extent of kissing and cuddling in public. Call it too outlandish in today’s generation but Christian and Rachelle Ann are not in favor of pre-marital sex.
"Going to church every Sunday and attending Victory Christian Fellowship (of which Christian is a member) together enlighten us about things we should not do like having sex until the time we get married," Rachelle Ann says.
It may be boring and too conservative to others but the two are good role models for the youth who boldly displays affection in public and gets pregnant out of wedlock.
Christian and Rachelle Ann find exchanging love letters a great way of expressing their feelings. The romance started 11 months ago when they were in the US shooting a music video for You and Me which incidentally is the title of their first Valentine concert on Feb. 13 at the Aliw Theater.
However, the courtship lasted for a year before Rachelle Ann reciprocated Christian’s love. They admit being in a relationship for the first time and enjoying their free time eating out or going out-of-town with friends.
While singing plays a major part in their respective careers, it is also through song that Christian expresses love for Rachelle Ann. He is fond of giving her CDs of songs that speak volumes about love.
Rachelle Ann, on the other hand, often exchanges gifts with Christian. The latest is the necklace she gave him on his birthday and though she is often moody, she makes up for it by singing to Christian during sweet moments.
"What I like most about Shin (Rachelle Ann) is that she can be very sweet and I cherish it the most because that seldom happens," Christian says.
As lovers, they sometimes have minor differences but Christian is quick to say they patch things up as soon as possible so as not to lead to greater conflict.
Asked to comment about the perception of others that they are the new Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez, Christian and Rachelle Ann admit the ex-couple is a tough act to follow. They would rather make their own path as singers. But a TV show like Martin and Pops’ Penthouse Live is what the young singing couple would like to have.
"A variety show that introduces new singers and bands would be nice," Christian says.
In fact, there are negotiations or plans of putting up a show for them either on Studio 23 or ABS-CBN but there’s nothing definite yet.
For now, the young couple are excited about their upcoming concert, a production of ASAP Live. The two will perform duets of songs close to their hearts. They even showed their singing prowess in a presscon held recently via You and Me to the audience’s delight. It made everybody conclude the concert will be an entertaining night in time for Valentine’s.
It would be interesting to watch the two who both excel in singing. Rachelle Ann is the grand champion of Search for a Star, has an album under Viva Records and has won a silver medal for the country in a music festival abroad. Christian, aside from having several hit albums under Warner Music, has made waves in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
Christian also reveals that he will also attempt to veer away from his comfort zone of doing ballads in the show. But mostly the theme of the concert is about love and relationships.
