Lovely couples at Echo’s 23rd birthday bash

Curtain-raisers:

Funfare’s New York DPA reported that the APO’s concert was cancelled at the last minute, much to the consternation of the hundreds who bought tickets, because the trio was a no-show. The DPA added that the APO guys (Danny Javier, Jim Paredes and Buboy Garovillo) were not able to get a (working) visa on time.

The recent 23rd birthday bash for Jericho "Echo" Rosales hosted by his long-time clothing sponsor Lee Denim USA was a big revelation. Couples who continue to deny that there’s something deeper than friendship between them showed up together and their actions definitely spoke louder than their denials.

Specific examples are Troy Montero and Cher Calvin who keep people guessing what the real score is between them, never mind if they’re giving themselves away with their exchange of sticky-romantic glances. Besides, they are old enough (too old, in fact) to go steady, so why deny something beautiful as if it’s a sin (to fall in love)?

And there were Jodi Santamaria and Junjun Lacson, son of Sen. Ping Lacson, who made such a cute and handsome pair. Yeah, they’re bagay na bagay. Junjun is goodlooking enough to be in showbiz. I’m sure several talent scouts are now poised to make the boy the offer he – and his parents – can’t refuse.

If Echo missed his girlfriend Kristine Hermosa, he didn’t show it. He beamed with happiness as he mingled with his family, friends and co-workers from ABS-CBN who were all wearing leis and beaded bracelets in keeping with the theme of the party. To further complete the look, Lee’s creative team accessorized the venue with everything blue – from the Lee all-washed-up denims hanging in the ceiling to the five-tier cake complete with sand, sea and surfboards.

The set-up truly delighted the nature-loving Echo who is known to turn to surfing whenever he needs a breather from the hectic schedule. What truly knocked his socks off though was the arrival of comedienne and emcee for the night, Giselle Sanchez. She almost stole the show when she came out of a huge box in an eye-popping ensemble to surprise Echo.

Dressed in his favorite casual outfit – a pair of Lee jeans and a comfortable shirt, Echo was a picture of youthful optimism and energy the entire evening. His co-stars in the recently-concluded soap Pangako Sa ’Yo didn’t miss the opportunity to be with their beloved Angelo on his special day. Spotted were Eula Valdez, Jean Garcia, Tonton Gutierrez, Amy Austria, Patrick Garcia, Alfie Vargas and Dianne de la Fuente. Echo’s fellow Hunks Carlos Agassi, Piolo Pascual and Bernard Palanca partied the night away.

It was truly a night of non-stop revelry as the Parliament Syndicate brought the house down with an eclectic mix of the latest hip hop, pop and dance grooves. The music sent Nikki Valdez, Kaye Abad, Tin Arnaldo, Dominic Ochoa, Sarah Christophers and Paolo Contis straight to the dance floor. Luis Alandy even belted out some tunes with the band to the enjoyment of the crowd. Friends Miko Palanca, Ronnie Quizon, Pops Fernandez, Glydel Mercado, Janna Victoria and Victor Neri were seen partaking the sumptuous Japanese fare prepared by Wasabi. Parokya ni Edgar’s vocalist Chito Miranda also dropped in to join the fun.

Echo’s supportive family from Lee led by president Wilfred Siy and wife Daisy were also there along with his creative staff composed of Kristine Uy, Epoy Arcino, Giselle Sia, Daryl Chang, Sheila Alfafara and Kytes Navarro. Other guests include Seattle’s Best Coffee’s Frederick Siy with fiancée Tiffany Chua.

Echo’s manager, Alan Real, led the gang from the ABS-CBN Talent Center. Seen were production staff members of ASAP, Pangako Sa ’Yo and friends from Star Studios. But no one was happier than Echo’s real family, led by mom Rose Vibar, along with his siblings Jeremiah, Carl and Luisa, and nephew Ryan Manalo.
