Now why on earth is MTV holding its Millennium Musicfest at the Folk Arts Theater on a Thursday? I know that there are probably one or two sensible answers to that question but they will not in any way erase the disappointment of all those teeny boppers who because of schoolwork the next day will not be able to watch the British boy group 911 and the female trio Juice when they perform at the MTV I Like Music Festival on the evening of Thursday, Jan. 27.
However, those who will be lucky enough to make it because they have no classes the next day or because they are simply matigas ang ulo will find tickets to the show being sold at a good 20 percent discount. That is if they can produce two wrappers of any of the following P&G products such as Rejoice, Secret, Whisper, Ivory Soap, Pantene, Head & Shoulders and Safeguard Soap. The tickets are prized at P950, P750, P550, P400, P250 and P150. If you have any of those wrappers, simply deduct 20 percent from the prize of the seat of your choice and you'll get what you will spend for your tickets.
Now, will a live performance by 911 and Juice be worth the time and the expense and the possibility of dozing off in class after a late night out? Could be. This boy group is one of the most popular in the world today with several hits that made the charts and because of their good looks is a constant presence in the fanzines. The Danish trio of Juice is relatively new with only one album out but you know how these Scandinavian acts are. These girls are also very talented.
911 is made up of Spike Dawborn, Jimmy Constable and Lee Brennan. The group was formed four years ago when this trio of dance fanatics met while working for a cult late night music show The Hitman and Her, that was on tour around England. The group became a success on its first time out in the charts with the single Night to Remember, a rehash of a disco favorite from the '80s on their own independent label Ginga Recording.
After a heated bidding war for 911 among various labels from which Virgin Records emerged the winner, Night to Remember was soon followed by Love Sensation, Don't Make Me Wait, The Day We Find Love, Bodyshakin', The Journey, Party People Friday Night, All I Want is, How Do You Want Me to Love You, More Than a Woman, A Little Bit More, Private Number and the latest from the Greatest Hits and a Little Bit More album, Wonderland.
The serial success of these songs within such a short space of time has made 911 the most popular British pop group of the moment. Doubtless adding to the trio's massive appeal is the fact aside from being able to sing and dance, all three of them are great lookers. And they are probably even better looking in person.
Juice named themselves after the American slang term for energy. So be prepared for you can expect something that will shake the whole FAT theater when the trio Anne, Maria and Eve comes out to perform Do It For You, Not in Love, What You Need, Can't Rush, I'll Make It Up to You and other songs from its debut album Can We Get Personal on Thursday.
The MTV I Like Music Festival is presented by Procter & Gamble for the benefit of Sagip-Isip. This is a project that enables schools to acquire much-needed teaching tools to enhance classroom activities and stimulate the children's minds and help them learn more. The event will be hosted by MTV VJ's Shannen, Belinda and KC and will also feature the EMI OctoArts dance groups Octo Beat and New School, plus new singer Ninni.
911 is not in the local hit list but pop acts continue to reign supreme among Pinoy listeners.
