Clarification on karma column

The Philippine Star

I would like to clarify matters which appeared in the column of Ms. Carmen N. Pedrosa titled “Karma” on the April 15, 2018 edition of The Philippine STAR.

This “eavesdropping” incident has repeatedly appeared in Ms. Pedrosa’s column. I wonder why. However, since I was the one who invited her to the house of Senator Loren Legarda because of my “supposed friendship” with her, I feel that I should put things in their proper perspective.

I remember clearly that evening that a senator, but definitely not Senator Juan Ponce Enrile who was Senate President at that time, called Senator Legarda asking if the senators could meet in her house. I also remember clearly Senator Legarda’s reply was, “Sure. Just take care of notifying the others.” That was all I heard.

After the call, Senator Legarda continued chatting with Ms. Pedrosa and me in a very friendly manner because it was purely a social dinner. I never heard nor did Senator Legarda mention about talking to Senator Enrile regarding the impeachment of Chief Justice Renato Corona. She did not mention about any conspiracy regarding the impeachment.

All Ms. Pedrosa’s thoughts are assumptions. Heaven knows where she got the information about the supposed conversation between Senator Enrile and Senator Legarda. I challenge Ms. Pedrosa that we go and see Senator Enrile to clarify this matter, otherwise, I shall accuse her of “fake news.”

By the way, Ms. Pedrosa’s daily attendance to the Corona impeachment trial was through the courtesy of Senator Legarda’s office.

I hope that this clarifies the issue. — SALLY ZALDIVAR PEREZ, Former Governor of Antique
