2 Maute group members slain

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Two suspected members of the Maute group were killed and another was arrested in Iligan City on Friday.

Azzam Tahir and a certain Wowie reportedly yielded two guns and several rounds of ammunition.

Police have yet to identify the arrested suspect.

Special Action Force commandos, who responded to reports that a sport utility vehicle owned by businessman Othelo Adiong was stolen, encountered the militants at around 8:45 a.m., Capt. Jo-Ann Petinglay, spokesperson for the Western Mindanao Command, said yesterday.

Petinglay said Adiong was driving the Ford Ranger with his mother, his wife and their two sons when the militants asked them pull over in Barangay Ubaldo Laya and took the vehicle at gunpoint.
