Team Pacman trains for Senate

Paolo Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - World boxing champion and senator-elect Manny Pacquiao is undergoing a program on governance in preparation for his new political career in the Senate.

According to a statement from his office, Pacquiao and his staff are undergoing an Executive Coaching Program conducted by the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) with the Ateneo School of Government, Asian Institute of Management and Philippine Public Safety College.

“The nine-day course program aims to brief the neophyte senator and his team with an overview of key issues in governance and nation building,” the statement said.

It said experts in the fields of education, labor, health, economy, social service and foreign relations would provide the team with facts and information from national to local level that may be vital in advancing Pacquiao’s legislative agenda.

It was not clear where the course is being held but the DAP is located in Tagaytay City in Cavite.

During his stint as Sarangani representative, the 37-year-old Pacquiao had been known for his absenteeism owing to his numerous boxing commitments abroad.

Pacquiao has declined to participate in the 2016 Rio Olympics to focus on his duties in the Senate.

He earlier announced his retirement from boxing after winning over Timothy Bradley Jr. last April.
