National disability prevention week opens

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The 36th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week kicked off in today.

Department of Social Welfare (DSWD) Secretary Corazon Soliman said the NDPR Week highlights the government's efforts to address issues affecting persons with disabilities (PWDs) and the same time recognize their role in nation building.

This year's theme encourages PWDs to use their talents and knowledge to be successful in their chosen fields, she said.

The DSWD chief assured that PWDs would not be left behind in the country's journey to inclusive growth through the various programs and services of the government.

As of June 28, a total of 209,191 families with PWD-members are included in the government's conditional cash transfer program, she said.
