Let’s observe, respect peace month

Lorra Anne H. Jinete, Ligao, Albay - The Philippine Star

It is National Peace Month this September and the government panel negotiating with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, the CPP-NPA-NDF is calling for more participation from the people and to give their support to the peace process. This call reiterates the government’s desire to forge peace with these groups. As a volunteer peace advocate here in Ligao, Albay, I admire our peace panelists and the government as well, for being patient, untiring and really committed to what they are doing.

These people have invested their time and effort and continue to be positive and seeing the fruits of their labor to finally have total peace in our country soon. Peace is still elusive. Let’s heed their call and give our full support for the talks to come to life again.  Let’s start peace initiatives in our own communities as this is one way of giving our support to the undertaking.

May we have a meaningful peace month and for the threat groups like the CPP/NPA to respect the observance of peace month by stopping their attacks, and perhaps to stop it altogether and to sit down and talk peace.
