“Swing for A Cause” a huge success, Gonzalodo leads winners

CEBU, Philippines — Lawyer Arnold Gonzalodo and Team Tour Jack emerged as the biggest winners of the “Swing for A Cause”, a charity golf tournament organized by the Datu Lapu-Lapu Masonic Lodge No.347 Inc. in partnership with Mactan Island Golf Course last Saturday, October 19, at the MIGC fairways of Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base in Lapu-Lapu City.

Gonzalodo was the overall gross champion in the individual category with 74 points, while Ian Balderama clinced the overall net title with 42 points.

It was a double celebration for Gonzalodo as he also powered GE Golf to the Class A crown in team event together with Amai Matugas, Jeric Abutazil, and Jeff Pintac with an aggregate scored of 100 points.

The Harley Boyz of Bam Jamorabo, Rhymus Gonzalez, Elvis Jequinto, and Jun Dayot settled for the first runner-up honors with 94 points.

In Class B, the ARQ squad bannered by Jason Arquisola, Jonathan Lureñana, Jayr Aguilon, and Leslie Molina reigned supreme with 105 points. The Shepherds of Reno Ebisa, Michael Lureñana, Randy Suzara, and Jun Yap finished second with 97 points.

Nuat Thai of Kendrick Soledad, Kenneth Carredo, Jong Melendez, and Allan John Lim lorded over in Class C with 98 points. The Salami Boyz of Tony Garcia, Rey Semilla, Nestor Gonzales, and Boy Jabonillo landed at second place with 77 points.

On the other hand, Tour Jack composed of Bart Vergara, Eugene Nadales, Cloyd Dedicatoria, and Noel Paña was the overall team champion (lowest gross) with 97 points, while the Enforcers manned by Balderama, James Logronio, and Rex Ornopia came out as overall team champion (lowest net) with 111 points.

In the individual battle, Jonathan Lureña topped Class A with 38 points. Berniel Bahian wound up second after edging Engr. Jayr Aguilon via countback.

TSG Ignacio Nuñal ruled Class B with 40 points, while James Logronio and Reno Ebisa took the second and third spots with 37 and 35 points, respectively.

Florito Selle dominated Class C with 42 points. Sherwin Jamin and Robert Tagulao ended up second and third.

In the ladies division, Sophia Uribe lifted the champion’s trophy with 53 points, while Apple Sombilon took the first runner-up honors with 32 points.

Vic Jarina caught part of the spotlight after claiming the seniors plum with 37 points, just a hairline ahead of Bart Vergara.

The organizing committee, headed by Engr. Jerry Maratas as chairman and Major Sean Compasivo as co-chairman, extended their profound gratitude to all those who have contributed to the success of the one-day golfest for a worthy cause. Bro. JP Amadora, on behalf of DLL347, and LTCOL Denise Paul Lapinig, MIGC administrator, also delivered messages of thanks.

“I am immensely proud and honored to declare that the tournament was a huge success. The support we’ve received is simply overwhelming. We have raised more than a million pesos in sponsorships, and 192 players participated in the tournament. In short our golf course is occupied and full from sunrise to sunset!” said Maratas.

“This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the tremendous support of everyone involved. It is a classic example of cooperation at its finest,” Maratas added. “As we celebrated our achievements on the course, let us also remember the greater achievement we have all contributed to the positive change we are helping to create in our community through our collective efforts.”
