CEBU, Philippines — Seda Central Bloc completed a golden treble in basketball and volleyball events of the highly successful Hotel Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu, Inc. (HRRACI) Sportsfest 2024, which came to a close on Sunday, July 21, at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) gym along Salinas Drive in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Former pro cager Steve Castro exploded for 39 points as Seda Central Bloc upended Shangri-la Mactan Resort, 89-80, in their knockout final match to emerge as champions on the hardcourt.

Castro, who shot a spectacular 7-of-14 from the 3-point land and sank all but one of his 13 free throws, also had five rebounds, four assists, and four steals in an all-around brilliance for Seda that earned him the Finals MVP honors.

Harold Cortes tallied 15 markers laced with six rebounds, three assists, and four steals, while Renzo Galdo contributed 14 points, four rebounds, and two assists for Seda, which trailed by eight points, 22-30, early in the second period.

Still down by three at halftime, 38-41, Seda launched a decisive counter-attack in the third frame to seize the driver’s seat, 63-57, for good.

While their rivals seemingly lost steam in the final stretch, the BJ Murillo-mentored Seda sustained their sizzling offensive on the way to establish an insurmountable 19-point advantage, 84-65, late in the game.

Shangri-la closed the match with a 15-5 run to lose by a decent margin.

Nico Magat topped Shangri-la with 20 points, five rebounds, and six assists.

Kenneth Glenn Niones netted 16 points and four rebounds, while Jose Miguel Tabaloc cashed in 13 points, nine boards, and two steals but their efforts went down the drain.

In volleyball, the spirited Seda spikers swept all the titles available.

Seda pulled off a 3-0 shutout of Nustar Resort and Casino with a uniform score of 25-20 to reign supreme in the women’s division, and then clobbered Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu also in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17, and 25-16 to grab the men’s crown. — (FREEMAN)
