Gura fails in WBC Youth title bid
CEBU, Philippines — Yeroge “The Scientific” Gura of Cebu’s ARQ Stable fumbled in his bid for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth super flyweight crown after bowing by unanimous decision at the hands of his Japanese rival Ayumu Sano last Sunday, June 23 at the Twin Messe in Shizuoka, Japan
The 21-year-old Gura put up a gallant stand fighting behind enemy lines but was well behind on points against the more aggressive Sano in the end of their 10-round bout.
The official scores were 97-93, 99-91, and 98-92, all for Sano, who stretched his unbeaten record to 9-0-1 with 4KOs.
Gura tasted his first career defeat and fell to 8-1-1 with 3KOs.
He is the third ARQ boxer to lose in Japan after Johnpaul “Angas ng Cebu” Gabunilas and Rodex “The Tank” Piala. — (FREEMAN)
