CEBU, Philippines — Having trained national team players from the United States, Mexico, and his native land is something that Cebuano basketball skills trainer Jefferson “Jeff” Codera is very proud of.

More to his shining credential, Codera has also polished the ability of a slew of high school and collegiate standouts, commercial veterans, and even PBA cagers for several years now.

Just last week , Codera stepped on a new phase of his lifelong mission to guide aspiring ballers in developing their skills when he got commissioned by Kiwi coach Mike Castagna of NZ Street Basketball to conduct a nine-day personalized training in Auckland, New Zealand that will wind up today (Sunday, April 28).

Castagna took notice of Codera’s penchant for harnessing potentials so they could perform at their best when he attended the NBA’s Golden State Warriors training camp last January in California wherein Codera was one of the trainers.

Believing in his capacity to transform raw talents into hardcourt gems, Castagna offered an all-expense paid trip for Codera to conduct a one-on-one training session with his son Noah,  a 14-year-old six-footer shooting guard, and his teammates.

“I’m very thankful that I was able to come to New Zealand for a skills training. It was a wonderful experience for me. As a Filipino, I’m truly grateful that they took notice of my talent,” said Codera, a licensed Gold coach of USA Basketball.

It was just a short stint but worthwhile nonetheless as many were impressed with Codera’s unique way of sharing his proven strategies and tips that there’s a strong clamor from the locals for him to come back.

“They were satisfied with what I am doing that they wanted me to come back again,” Codera shared.  “I’m so lucky to be given this opportunity, training talents not only in the US and the Philippines but also globally. I’m proud being a Filipino to showcase my skills on the international level.” — (FREEMAN)
