CYLI holds “Chess for a Brighter Future” this weekend

CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano pawnpushers will once again test each other's mettle through the Catalyst Youth Leadership Institute's 'Open Chess Challenge for a Brighter Future' this weekend at the second level of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

The eight-round Swiss system competition offers over P20,000 in cash prize for the top performers in the open, ladies and kiddies category.

The open champion will pocket P8,000, while the second to fifth will receive P4,000, P2,000, P1,000 and P500. The sixth to 10th will get P400 each, while the 11-15th will take home a consolation prize of P300.

The top three kiddies (12-under) and ladies, on the other hand, will receive a uniform prize of P1,000, P500 ad P300.

Tournament director International Master Kim Steven Yap said the prizes shal be shared equally for players with the same number of points.

Registration fee is pegged at P150 for kiddies and P300 for adult entries.
