PBF champion Junny Salogaol braces for international debut
CEBU, Philippines – PBF bantamweight champion Junny 'The Punisher' Salogaol will have the biggest break of his young career as he is scheduled to fight for a regional title in Thailand.
The 22-year-old slugger from Big Yellow Stable based n Lagtang, Talisay City will also be showcasing his punching skills for the first time in his pro career.
Matchmaker Christopher "Ping-Ping" Tepora, who helped Salogaol in making this opportunity come to fruition, said the match-up is for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan-Pacific junior featherweight title. He further stated that he has yet to know the opponent of the Borbon, Cebu-native as the fight contract is not yet available. The championship bout is set for September 21 in the Thai capital city of Bangkok.
Salogaol is coming off a third round knockout win over Nicong Calamba of Agusan del Sur to retain his PBF for the second time three weeks ago in Minglanilla, Cebu. In a battle of sheer guts and will, Salogaol weatherwed a second-round storm as the challenger connected hard shots to the head that visibly hurt the champion. Fortunately, he was able to find his rhythm and landed a picturesque left hook that forced a halt to the bout.
"I know that winning fights in Thailand is hard but I will just do my best," said Salogaol, who is being trained by coach Joseph Cortes. This statement from the Philippine champion will undoubtedly remind us that Thailand is infamously known for "hometown decisions," suggesting further that you need to knock your opponent out to win. As of the moment, he is in deep training in preparation for the biggest break of his fistic career. – Felman Gingoyon of Philboxing.com
