SHS-AdC bags girls’ under-18 title

CEBU, Philippines - The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu booters successfully claimed the girls’ under-18 division title of the 17th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday with a dominating 3-1 victory over St. Theresas College at their own turf in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

Theresians logged the first goal in the finals match courtesy of Manondo, but SHS-AdC’s Arantxa Trebol immediately tied the game with a goal in the 25th minute.

Itsuko Bacatan then gave Ateneo the upper hand with her goal on the 59th. SHS-AdC also applied tight defense to avoid a comeback from STC. Korean Yoo Gin Kim sealed their win with their final goal on the 68th minute.

Aside from winning the crown, four of SHS-AdC's players were given special awards with Bacatan named the Most Valuable Player.

Trebol got the best striker award, Peeve Layage as the best goal keeper and Katrina Rodriguez as best defender.

STC got one special award through Kaye Sarmiento as the best midfielder.

Meanwhile, last year's under-18 champion, Tabor Hills settled for third this time against the Mactan  Spartans, 2-0.

At San Roque Parish's football field, three of Don Bosco Technology Center's bets got a win each.

Don Bosco Savio moves up to the under-11's semifinal round with a 5-0 win over Lahug-FC B in the quarterfinals.

In the ongoing elimination round of the boys' 15, DBTC-A annihilated Paref-Springdale, 6-0.

DBTC' s team B also enjoyed another easy win against the Abellana National School-Pomeroy. (FREEMAN)
