USJ-R, CEC, SHS-AdC nail 2nd win in a row in Alaska Cup hoopla
CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), Cebu Eastern College (CEC) and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) scored two straight wins at the Alaska Basketball Cup Cebu 2014 (ABCC) that went full blast with a total of 23 games played over the weekend at the Lux Oriens Gym of SHS-AdC in Canduman, Mandaue City.
In the Under 10 age group, the youngest division, USJ-R nipped Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC), 28-26, and SHS-AdC, 18-16 to kick off its campaign on a high note. In another Under 10 game, USC Green thumped guest team St. Benedict Child Education Center, 41-16, while guest team CEC stopped DBTC, 24-13.
CEC scored its two straight wins in the Division 1 Under 13 age group, scorching DBTC, 56-40, then squeezing out a 61-59 win over SHS-AdC. UV recovered from its opening day loss by nipping SHS-AdC 40-38, and defeating DBTC-A 40-31.
In Division 2 Under 13 games, SHS-AdC B stopped Asian Learning Center, 43-37, while Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion-Mandaue (CIC-M) trounced DBTC-B, 54-25.
In the Division 1 Under 16 age group, SHS-AdC cruised to a 79-24 win over DBTC-A and scraped past San Isidro Parish School B97 team, 59-48 in overtime.
Defending Under 16 champs UV-A debuted with a 56-48 over USJR-A. Guest team Thumbs Up 1 nipped the comebacking University of Cebu (UC), 50-46, while the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) nipped CIC-M B97, 50-49. CEC-A defeated SCSIT, 62-55.
In Division 2 Under 16 games, SHS-AdC B halted USJR-B, 36-27, CEC-B defeated Mt. Olives Christian Academy (MOCA), 39-33, UV-B won over Southwestern University (SWU), 56-44. DBTC-B cruised to a 54-36 win over SIPS B98 team, guest team ALC halted USJR-B, 51-42, while CEC-B went 2-0 with a 51-46 victory over SWU.
The ABCC 2014 is a partnership between Alaska Milk and the Cebu Youth Basketball League, which is now on its seventh season as a venue for grassroots and developmental basketball for age groups 16 and below. (FREEMAN)
