Huey, Inglot shine in Basel win their second ATP World Tour title at Swiss Indoors

CEBU, Philippines - Fil-Am netter Treat Condrad Huey once again brought honor and glory to the Philippines on the international stage after he and his partner Dominic Inglot from Great Britain blasted the Austrian tandem of Julian Knowle and Oliver Marach, 6-3, 3-6, 10-4, to grab the doubles crown at the Swiss Indoors Basel tennis tournament in Switzerland last Sunday.

Aside from clinching their second ATP World Tour title in their sixth team final and climbing up to 11th spot in the Emirates ATP Doubles Team Rankings, Huey and Inglot also bolstered their chances of claiming one of the three remaining doubles berths for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals set on November 4-11 at The O2 in London.

Huey and his fellow University of Virginia alum Inglot nailed their first title after they beat Kevin Anderson and Sam Querrey 7-6 (7), 6-7 (9), 10-5 in the Citi Open doubles final on August 5 last year.

"It is such a great feeling to have won a title again, after not having won one this year,” said Inglot in a report posted on www.atpworldtour.com yesterday. “We left it late, but better late than never. We worked on a few things during the summer and I think it is paying off in the fall, winter.”

The win was a sweet redemption of sort for Huey and Inglot, who were upstaged in two finals this year, first at the Power Horse Cup in Dusseldorf and then at the Winston-Salem Open in United States.

“It feels amazing,” said Inglot. “We really enjoy this tournament, but we came out knowing we had to defend a final. It can put pressure on you. I was not hitting the ball that great, but Treat has been pushing me hard," added Inglot in the same internet report. “We got a good win in the first round against Qureshi and Rojer and I think that set us nicely for this tournament.”

The 28-year-old Huey is now 2-7 in finals overall, while Inglot improved to 2-5. They barged into the Bael finals after trouncing France's Michael Llodra and Nicolas Mahut, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2).

Huey and Inglot now train their sights on the BNP Paribas Masters next week in Paris where they will face Fabio Fognini and Andreas Seppi in the first round.

“We are off to Paris tonight (yesterday Phl time) on the train and we’ll hopefully have a good week there,” said Huey a member of the Phl Davis Cup Team that saw action in at least six ties for the past three years at the Plantation Bay Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City. (FREEMAN)
