EBV - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - It's all systems go for the first ever Brgy. Capt. Lou Ornopia Basketball Tournament set to unfold this Saturday at the Calambua open court in the bustling northern Cebu town of San Remigio. The opening ceremony promptly starts at 2 pm.

Close to P30,000 in cash prize is at stake for the top performing teams, with the champion getting the biggest chunk of P10,000. The second and third placers will pocket P7,000 and P5,000, respectively, while the fourth will receive a consolation prize of P3,000.

Special awards will also be given away to the best muse and best in uniform during the kick off salvo.

At the end of the competition, the outstanding individual achievers will also be feted led by the regular season MVP and the Mythical Five.

The event is fully supported by the barangay council of Calambua under the dynamic leadership of Brgy. Capt.  Lou Ornopia.

"We are holding this tournament because we want the people of Calambua and its neigboring barangays in San Remigio to experience a classic and highly entertaining hardcourt action. Seldom they see a highly competitive game with star players joining in and this is their opportunity," said Ornopia, who is best known in the sports world as the godfather of Cebu motocross.

Though mainly supported by the local government unit of Calambua in partnership with MS Motosuit, some private entities have also pooled their resources to back up the summer cagefest including Bradder Moto Access, F & F Motor Parts, RMO Motor Parts, Prospeed, Motomaze, JCO Motor Parts, Keiz BJ Motors, Leizel Navarez, and the families of Saludar, Ycot, Ornopia, Montealto, Armenion, Jubay, De la Peña, and Vincent Golbe.
