OX KBDF Gaming eyes bigger, grander “Binukbukay sa Sugbo”

CEBU, Philippines — Driven by the success of his maiden venture in the boxing scene, OX KBDF Gaming big boss Dr. Winley de la Fuente immediately trains his sights on a bigger and much better fight card eight months from now.

De la Fuente’s inaugural “Binukbukay sa Sugbo” promotion last February 8 at the posh Nustar Resort and Casino Convention Center lived up to its billing.

It featured a very entertaining action-packed bouts especially the main event between South Korea’s Jong Seon Kang and Japan’s Ryuto Owan that left the crowd on the edge of their seats before Owan scored a spectacular ninth round stoppage to grab the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Global featherweight crown,

In a bloody and brutal war of attrition, Kang and Owan relentlessly threw some of the best punches the fans have ever seen to the delight of spectators.

They exchanged knockdowns in the course of their epic battle that was one for the ages until Owan pinned Kang against the ropes and then unleashed a barrage of heavy blows to the head of the obviously dazed and groggy Kang that forced Thai referee Surat Soikrachang to wave off the bout with a second left in round nine.

Prior to that, Cebuano brawler Rodex “The Tank” Piala showed true grit and will power in dethroning China’s Yeerjialahasi Laayibieke to emerge as the new WBO Oriental super featherweight champion.

So impressed with Piala’s performance that De la Fuente gave the ARQ Stable fighter a P100,000 bonus.

Admittedly, De la Fuente said his initial undertaking was not perfect.

“We assessed the event and saw that it wasn’t perfect. There were lapses in production though only minor ones. Rest assured we will work on this to make some improvement in our next promotions,” De la Fuente said. “Overall, I am grateful to my crew and staff for putting together a great event.”

Looking forward, De la Fuente is highly motivated to bring his fistic show to a higher level for its second edition this October.

“We’re now planning for October, and it has to be bigger and better,” De la Fuente continued. “A world title fight would be ideal. I’ve already started scouting boxers who could fight for either an IBF or WBO title. We’re looking at having two championship fights possibly both world title bouts.”
