CEBU, Philippines - The GCM hoopsters upended Vanese Justine, 73-63, in their knockout final match to win the championship of the 5th F. Llamas Youth Association (FYA) basketball tournament last Monday at the barangay Tisa gym.
Earlier, the MBD Law Office defeated Harold's Hotel, 81-78, to settle for third place.
EJohn Fernandez scored only 13 points for GCM, but his day was extra sweeter after he grabbed the MVP trophy. It was Jimmy Tapdasan who topped GCM's scoring chart with 18 points followed by Tata Laborte with 13 markers.
Fernandez was joined in the Mythical Five by Tata Laborte, Chrissar Llegunas of Vanese Justine, Dandan Enriquez of MBD Law Office and Dondon Cadungog of Harold's Hotel. The 'Sportsmanship' award went to Michael Palo of GCM.
Duke Teves topscored for Vanese Justine with 20 points, while Llegunas and Jaz Sydiongco had 12 and 11 points, respectively, in a losing cause.
Meanwhile, Enriquez exploded with 35 points for MBD Law Office, while Nico Laborte and Isyot Regudo chipped in 13 points apiece. Jaime Atuel had 25 points for Harold's Hotel. (FREEMAN)
