CEBU, Philippines - David Park and Elro de los Reyes lead the winners of the 5th Albino D. Gothong Memorial Golf Tournament dubbed as the Amo Cup, which was played at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club last weekend.
Park, a Korean teenager, fired two-under-par 70 strokes to bag the lowest gross honors for the two-day, 18-hole tournament. He fired nines of 34 and 36.
The mustachioed de los Reyes carded a gross 84 on nines of 43 and 41. Less his handicap of 22, he made a net ten-under-par 62 strokes to bag the overall lowest net plum.
The lowest gross honors for class A went to Masahisa kawakami with 75 strokes on nines of 37 and 38.
Lowest net for the premiere handicap class went to Leo Saberon with 66 strokes of a gross 75. Runner-up honors went to Malaysia-based Nolan Rada, who made a net 69 and edged Marvin Mendoza in the countback.
Yasuyuki Kanai won the lowest gross plum for class B shooting seven-over-par 79 strokes.
The lowest net honors went to Cristino Lim with 67 strokes off a gross 83 while runner-up honors went to Arnold Tan, who edged Koko Holganza in the countback. Both had net scores of 69 strokes.
The lowest gross honors for class C went to Ed Eroy with 84 strokes. Lowest net honors for this class went to Jephte Romea with 64 strokes beating Harris Roska for the crown in the countback. Roska settled for the runner-up honors.
Club director Vicente 'Inting' Go ruled the seniors' division by firing the lowest gross of 77 strokes.
Lowest net among the seniors was made by Bobby Barria with 65 strokes and the runner-up honors went to Mar Selma with 66. This division is for players aged 55 to 64 years old.
In the super seniors' class, Ed Franco won the lowest gross honors with 81 strokes while lowest net winner was Felipe Ventulan with 65 strokes off a gross 95. This category is for players aged 65 years old and up.
The ladies' division lowest gross plum went to junior golf standout Ericka Lim with 77 strokes. The lowest net plum went to Mayette Alba with 67 strokes off a gross 103.
Ariel Mangana won the lowest gross title for the guest division shooting even-par 72. The lowest net plum went to Junrey Pelayo with 63 strokes off a gross 81 while runner-up honors went to Paolo Alberto with 64 beating Freddie Salimbangon in the countback.
Alberto also won the special award for being nearest to the pin on the par-3 hole number 6 leaving 5 feet and 11 inches for a birdie putt, which he easily made.
Another special award went to Skygo's Mario King, who made the most accurate drive on the par-4 11th landing his ball right smack on top of the center line.
The awards ceremony was graced by members of the Gothong family led by Mrs. Pacita Gothong, wife of the late sportsman and avid golfer. His children Barbara 'Bambi' Gothong-Tan and Benjo Gothong along with their spouses were also present.
A total of 297 players took part in this year's tournament.
