Young players gather for age-group chess
CEBU, Philippines - Over a hundred young pawnpushers led by the likes of Allan Pason and Kyle Sevillano will gather this weekend for the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC)-organized 1st Cebu Age-Group Challenge at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) dance studio.
The two-day tilt will determine Cebu's representatives to the National Age-Group Finals slated from April 7 to 14 in Kalibo, Aklan.
“The national age-group is held annually and just this year, CCSC finally decided to have elimination here instead of sending athletes right away in Manila. In this way, we can assure that we will be sending in the best athletes," said tournament director Felix Poloyapoy.
The event features six categories: 20-under, 16-under, 14-under, 12-under, 10-under and 8-under.
The registration will be held from 8 am to 9 am on Saturday. The competition promptly begins at 10 am.
Entry fee is pegged at P30. All participants are requested to bring an NSO aunthenticated birth certificate for age verification. (FREEMAN)
