CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) chairman Edward Hayco said they will highlight the overwhelming contribution of volunteerism in the success of its grassroots program during the first ever Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-LGU Sports Summit today at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
The PSC has tapped the city of Cebu among the resource agencies in its ground-breaking event because of its comprehensive and genuine development program.
“I would like to emphasize the meaning and purpose of grassroots and the fulfillment of being a volunteer. Getting a good coach is expensive that these young kids could not afford that’s why the CCSC is providing them the rare opportunity - providing them with volunteer coaches to further hone up their skills," said Hayco.
“The grassroots program will be a transformational experience for them. It will stay in their hearts for the rest of their lives. It’s not all about winning, but it’s on how they traverse the journey in going to wherever they want to be," he added.
To show to the national leadership how the City was able to nurture a wide-ranging grassroots development project, Hayco said they have painstakingly prepared a short audio-video presentation with reference to its assigned topic in the summit, which is "Grassroots Sports Program: Cebu City Model."
"I believe that we are able to sustain our grassroots program because of the culture of volunteerism, dedication and commitment that we have created among our local athletes and other dedicated individuals who went out of their way to train kids for free in the different mountain barangays here in Cebu," he added.
