Talamban's Cataraja mauls foe in Summit boxing

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Kevin Jake Cataraja is the lone entry from Talamban National High School but it did not stop him from making an impact in the latest action of the Summit Natural Drinking Water Amateur Boxing Series the other night at the Gaisano Countrymall carpark.

Cataraja gave Mandaue’s Jiko Gako a neat lesson in boxing to hammer out a 3-0 win in their 53 kgs. duel.

56 kgs. Tiboy Ardiente of Maramag and 51 kgs. Christian Bacolod of Mabolo National High School also came up with a 3-0 whitewash over Cabancalan Elementary School’s Arjay Burasca and Bacolod’s Rolan Servaña, respectively.

Cabancalan ES ended its campaign with a 2-4 win-loss record. Polid Banal (46 kgs) and Rey Sanchez (37 kgs.) were accounted for its two victories at the expense of Ryan Dungog and Banilad’s Joshua Formentera.

Aside from Burasca, Cabancalan's other casualties were Eleno Traya and Jomar Caspe. Traya lost to University of the Visayas’ Melvin Besinga in the 64 kgs. division, while Caspe bowed to Raymond Tarona of the Philippine-Australian Boxing Club in the 40 kgs. class.

PABC, on the other hand, posted a 2-1 slate. Its second win came from 46 kgs. Jeorge Ledesma, who defeated Sultan Kudarat’s Marvin Lulu.

PABC'S 37 kgs. bet Raymund Rama, however, lost to Pit-os’ Ramil Casañares.

UV, for its part, had an even 2-2 card. Bryan Remedio joined Besinga into the winners' podium after crushing Opao’s Bryan Paden in the 48 kgs.class.

UV's two other entries in 51 kgs. Rie Muñez and 54 kgs. Wendel Acharon lost to Consolacion’s Ritchie Montealto and Cabancalan NHS’ Cherwellan Cantel. — (FREEMAN)
