Team Bisdaks sizzle in team events

LINGAYEN, PANGASINAN, Philippines  — Team Visayas, also known as Bisdaks, sizzled in team events at the start of hostilities in the 3rd Milo Little Olympics National Finals yesterday here.

The Glenn Ramos-mentored Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) booters made an impressive start after they blanked Luzon and the National Capital Region (NCR) at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center field.

The Bosconians pummeled Luzon, 24-0, with goals from Jay Arizabal, Val Calvo, Ren Agot, Chino Dela Calzada, Joseph Mercado and Ryan Diaz. They followed it up with another devastating 15-0 win over NCR.

With a clean 2-0 slate, Visayas could wrap up the football crown with a victrory over Mindanao this morning.

In the elementary division, the younger Bosconians also streaked to a sizzling start. DBTC of coach Joselito Bono thumped Luzon, 2-0, before crushing Mindanao, 4-2.

Volleyball

The Bisdaks also delivered in volleyball, fending off their toughest rival NCR at the Pangasinan State University (PSU).

Represented by the Abellana National School (ANS) spikers, Team Visayas had to pass through some scary moments before edging out NCR in three sets.

The Sta. Elena National High School-manned NCR took the first set, 25-23, but the gritty ANS bounced back in the second frame via a 32-30 thriller to forge a rubbermatch.

In the deciding set, ANS never allowed NCR to dominate again as they made it all the way to a 25-20 finish.

ANS of coach Thelma Datig sustained their momentum to handily beat Mindanao, 25-18, 25-16, behind the powerful attacks of Ulyros Lopez, Kevin Labay, Ranulfo Senining, Kingfred Sambrana, Mark Kevin Datig, Louge Gela and JP Andrino.

In the distaff side, the Pajo National High School (PNHS) belles of coach Fr. Rey Manayon wowed the crowd as they trounced Palarong Pambansa champions Hope Christian School of NCR in straight sets, 25-23, 25-16.

In the elementary level, Colegio del Sto. Niño registered consecutive victories at the expense of NCR, 25-21, 25-13, and Luzon, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19.

Four-time Palarong Pambansa title-holder Catmon Elementary School also posted a 2-0 record after beating Luzon and Mindanao.

Sipa

Catmon ES of coach Noel Bragat made their presence felt after tallying two victories in a row.

Powered by Ronald Navarro, Tomas Dupla, Vinci Mark Rosas and Bien Odrey Coloscos, Catmon upended NCR in straight sets, 21-17, 25-24 and then went through a three-set thriller before getting rid of Mindanao, 15-21, 21-19, 15-13.

They ionly need to beat Luzon today to take home the champion's trophy.

Lawn tennis

The Visayas netters also produced good results in the first day of action.

The elementary players tallied two wins over Luzon and Mindanao. Arthur Craig Pantino hurdled his singles match against an opponent from Luzon, 8-0, while the tandem of Nathaniel Carl Alipe and Francis Lambayan triumphed in the doubles, 8-0.

In the secondary division, Fritz Satera won, 8-0, while the Laurel brothers Jermaine and Jarred also came out victorious, 8-3. (FREEMAN)
