CEBU, Philippines - The Century Properties Ultramarathon 2011, the toughest ultramarathon race in Cebu to date, is set to take place on November 19 from Bogo to Cebu City.
More than just being a test of one’s endurance and determination to finish a 100-kilometer battle, the upcoming event is for worthy cause and that is to save the Pasig River.
To start the ball rolling, the event’s chief corporate backer Century Property pledged to donate P1 million for the rehabilitation of the Pasig River through ABS-CBN Foundation’s Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig if the number of participants in Cebu and that in the Davao led on December 10 will reach at least 100 or more.
An assured amount of P400, 000, however, will be given already to the said foundation during the Run for Pasig River on November 20 in Pasig City, while the remaining P600,000 will be donated if the target number of entries for the Cebu and Davaos leg will be achieved.
“We want to bring forth the message of preserving the river and all water resources in the country through this event,” said Century Properties AVP for Corporate Communications Maria Theresa Fucanan-Yu.
Aside from Pasig River, Century Property also looks into supporting the rehabilitation of all water resources in the country.
With that, the organizing frontRunner Magazine is encouraging the Cebuanos and the rest to join the challenge.
So far, there are now ultra marathoners from lloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Bacolod, Zamboanga, and Manila who have signified their intent to take part in the noble endeavor.
A cut-off time of 18 hours will be imposed to the participants to finish the race plus a cut-off time of nine hours at the halfway located in Catmon.
Those who failed to reach the cut-off time at the half will not be able to continue the race, according to lead organizer Jonel Mendoza.
For those who insist to continue running, they will have to do it at their own risk and will no longer be acknowledged as an official finisher of the race.
For the top performers, a specially-designed race will be given away along with a finisher's shirt and other giveaways.
Registration fee is pegged at P250 inclusive of personalized shirt, dri-fit singlets and other goodies from sponsors.
