Free baseball clinic set at Aboitiz Sports Field

CEBU, Philippines - The need to help the local batted sports community has pushed the U.S Embassy to include a baseball clinic on its “America in 3D” program at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue today.

America in 3D is actually a special initiative that showcases American culture, values, and services in the country with no less than Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, Jr. and dozens of US Embassy colleagues attending the event here.

This is the second time this year that the US Embassy along with Fastball is organizing a clinic for the youngsters. The first one was held last March with Major League Baseball legend Ken Griffey Jr. spearheading the clinic.

This time the clinic will run for two days with Cebu’s Fastball Sportsventure facilitating the event again.

Participants are expected to develop their baseball skills, compete in skills challenge and play actual baseball and softball games.

“We are expecting up to 300 players from more than two dozen schools around Cebu to participate. They will be divided in two batches. One to attend on Saturday, the other on Sunday,” said Jesse Bernad, Fastball’s General Manager.

The whole day event will start at 8 a.m. beginning with a baseball clinic featuring 4-baseball skills station which include pitching, batting, infield and outfield.

After that comes the skills competition – base-running relay, ball-passing relay, pitching speed and accuracy, farthest throw, bunting accuracy and double-play.

Mini games will conclude the two-day clinic.

This clinic is free and no entrance fees will be charged. For more information, one can call Jesse at 09173222284 or jessebernad@yahoo.com. (FREEMAN)
